What is cross-linked polyethylene/XLPE?

 

Cross-linked polyethylene, also known as XLPE, is a form of insulation produced by heating and high pressure. One way to produce XLPE insulation is to irradiate the compound. Another method is to use peroxide to chemically crosslink the compound. The most important attribute of XLPE is its electrical properties.
